Relic and Ruin by Wendii McIver

3.0

Let me start by saying that the plot for this book is literally EPIC! Not only do we have a fight between good and evil for the lives of every person in the world, but we got star-crossed lovers like never before.

Relic & Ruin had me hooked from page 1, excited to see what new hell the characters found themselves in as the chapters continued. There is enough adventure in this book to keep you going and a bit of mystery to keep you guessing.

There, of course, were also things that I found lacking:

•There is an abnormally large cast of characters. I sometimes… often times found myself highly confused. During editing, I think a lot of them could have been cut out of the story and nothing would have changed.

•At times, the story was a little all over the place. Not only do we have what is in essential, a battle between good & evil, but then we have what seemed to be an Arthurian retelling… oh and also, there are characters from fairytales. There’s Peter Pan, but just an invisible version that only 1 character can see, the Mad Hatter, Hansel & Gretel… you get the picture. I love the overall concept, but we can’t put every idea into 1 story.

And while I do find great and less than great aspects to the story, I definitely feel like it could have really been helped by being edited… a couple more times. Also, there is a lot that wasn’t explained or dealt with, so if this is a standalone, I’m going to be even more confused.
