The Taking of Annie Thorne
by C.J. Tudor
**************************************The taking of Annie Thorne by C.J Tudor************************************** is a fast-paced thriller that keeps the reader on their toes and as the novel progresses the questions become more and more. The novel contains good plot twists that keep the reader guessing as they read the novel and universal life lessons. Furthermore, it contains beautiful descriptions of the protagonist’s childhood town, Arnhill, and a wide array of characters that the reader gets to know at a deeper level throughout the novel. The creepy atmosphere is also well-executed and portrayed throughout the novel. The novel also excellently portrays how peer pressure, choice of friends, misfortune or trauma, and bullying can prompt people to become addicted to certain things to escape reality. However, the use of cuss words was quite unnecessary for me as it did not have any use other than portraying frustration or sounding cool. The ending was mildly shocking at best for me and the supernatural (paranormal) aspects surrounding the pit could have been more developed. Moreover, the reader is left with unanswered questions after finishing the novel. I would recommend this novel for mystery, crime-lovers, but I wouldn’t recommend the book for people looking for a horror story.
