Humans
by Robert J. Sawyer
Truly disappointing. I decided to continue with this series because I read the first in the trilogy many years ago and thought it was time to complete it before it disappears completely from the library. I've enjoyed past books by [a:Robert J. Sawyer|25883|Robert J. Sawyer|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1224975910p2/25883.jpg], but I found it hard to finish this one. The first book, [b:Hominids|264946|Hominids (Neanderthal Parallax, #1)|Robert J. Sawyer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1432618104s/264946.jpg|1500323] was an interesting exploration of the idea of what would the Neanderthals been like if they had survived to the modern era. This book only explored this idea a little bit, and mostly during the final few chapters. Although this book is a forerunner to today's 'cli-fi' genre, most of it was a thinly disguised political monologue where the author bangs the reader over the head with his beliefs rather than letting the reader draw their own conclusions. The low point, was a ridiculously staged discussion where clueless (and pointedly Caucasian) professors are literally scolded on why farmers and agriculture are the root cause of the evil Western society. Give me a break! I won't be finishing this series.
