Evocation
by S.T. Gibson
I wanted to like this book so much, but I feel disappointed overall. The writing was easy to read, and I liked David's character, especially when he was trying to better himself. However, the plot was very minimal and sometimes I even forgot there was a plot. The characters also felt distant to me, as a reader, and I couldn't connect that much. The relationships as well felt shallow and it was hard for me to root for them. I also felt that the way childhood abuse and alcoholism was handled in the story a bit messy. I feel like this book had great potential if it really delved deeply into the minds of the characters and had more introspection.
