The Maidens by Alex Michaelides

3.0

3.5 stars.

I’m sensing a trend with Michaelides drawing inspiration from the Greek tragedies. I read The Silent Patient in May and liked it quite a bit, so of course I had to get my hands on his sophomore novel as soon as it became available to me.

I must admit, there were parts of this I loved, parts that shocked me, and parts that seemed more than a little extraneous, I guess? There were a couple parts that were hard to follow and I had to read them over a second time to fully grasp what was being conveyed. This book was PACKED with red herrings and wild goose chases, a touch of frustration, and an all in all wild ending that admittedly I did not see coming at. all.

Am I less impressed with this one than with The Silent Patient? Yes, slightly. Will I read more books if Michaelides writes them? Absolutely.
