Superman: Red Son by Mark Millar
2.0
I feel like I'm in crazy land when I see all the positive reviews for this book.
I can understand the love for this book because it has a great premise of Superman being raised in Soviet Russia. I like the relationship between him and Stalin's son. Lex Luthor was a great antagonist and I sort of rooted for him. I wanted to see how more of the the normal American superheroes reacted to him.
I liked Superman and Wonder Woman's relationship. I didn't like how Wonder Woman weakened to a damsel-in-distress for Supes to save. I also did not understand how there was a Soviet Batman. It didn't make sense. The aftermath of his fight against Superman took a typically bleak Millar turn.
The end of the book was decent until it ended with SPOILERtimeloopSPOILER didn't quite sit well with me.
EDIT: in retrospect, I'm liking the ending more. It's becming my favorite part of the story. I love the relationships (Supes and Stalin, Supes and Wonder Woman and Batman) but the plot didn't have a big idea or theme for me to love.
