I love a good cozy mystery and this one had all the trademarks of your traditional cozy mystery PLUS some wonderful new and intriguing delights and surprises thrown in.
So we begin by meeting Paige and her Aunt Glo, they’ve been left a B&B by GeeGee (Glo’s mother and Paige’s grandmother) so they head off to a new life and finally get to investigate the mysterious locked library that GeeGee never allowed them to see. What they find is a talking Siamese named Frank (the snarkiest kitty I’ve ever met, I love him), and are instructed to resurrect the Book Club. Only eight members allowed, no more, no less. This is no ordinary book club however. Upon selecting a book and reading the first page, they are magically transported to within the book and cannot leave until the mystery is solved. I think this is my biggest wish, to be inside the story and writing it as we go along.
We meet some wonderful quirky characters; the other members of the book club are an eclectic bunch and all have a part to play in the solving of the mystery. The characters of the book within the book are also a unique and interesting bunch as our book club sleuths discover.
The twist was fun, I won’t say more, and the ending is also interesting regarding the future of our fellow sleuths. Which leads me to say although the books are standalone mysteries and can be read individually, I would say, based on the end of this book, that they are better read in order.
To summarise, I loved this book and will be devouring the full series as soon as I am able.
