An intriguing exploration of what it would be like to just give in to all of your impulses. The main character, Marie, is not really that exceptional, but she gets caught up in extraordinary circumstances through following her impulses without dithering about morality. Through her interactions with her latest marks, we see what idiots men are (and, to a lesser extent, women). Everyone is deluding themselves and living a lie, and Marie's rampage throws this into unforgiving relief. But the book is not just a type of fantasy - throughout, she processes her life traumas in very relatable ways, as events and people both trigger her and allow her to recover. Marcy Dermansky portrays different settings of all types, from a Paris McDonald's to luxury apartments, in a realistic way, especially highlighting the senses - touch, taste, smell, etc. She also brings in cutting reflections on class, love, trust, and belonging. In the end, it's both nihilistic and touching. Recommend for a quick and definitely different read.
