Cat Person and Other Stories by Kristen Roupenian
5.0
I don't think this book is for everyone, but I loved it. It captures the perversity of many people's experiences. It explores the echos of trauma that ripple through our lives. It got inside my head, inside the mental gymnastics I do to try and understand why and how people do harm. Roupenian leans into hurt, harm, trauma, the areas of life we want to explain and wish away. She strips away the happy facade of mundane life revealing the spiteful monsters that lurk underneath. You won't find happiness or fulfilling endings here, but perhaps you will find a taste of the brutality of existence and a wonderfully dark and twisted sense of humor.
