I love the early Camorra Chronicles, but this book just reeks of incompetence. Maddox has no principles, allowing things to go too far and blindly ignoring his own role in the club’s actions. All he had to do once he had misgivings was sneak away into the night with Marcella while everyone else is distracted or drunk. Things went way too far—it wasn’t the ear or the tattoo thing itself that bothered me, it was Maddox’s ability and absolute failure to prevent it. He has no attractive qualities. As for Marcella, I actually liked the complexity of her character. All stars for her and the dogs. But while I don’t blame her for her predicament, I don’t get why once out of the kennels she never tried once to escape. How does one born into a crime family not know how to pick a lock? Or pick up a lamp and bash one of her captors over the head? For a similar premise done better, just read Remo’s book, Twisted Pride, Sophie Lark’s Stolen Heir, or Danielle Lori’s The Darkest Temptation.
