Welcome to the Writer's Life: How to Design Your Writing Craft, Writing Business, Writing Practice, and Reading Practice by Paulette Perhach

5.0

I liked this book so much that I don’t know where to start. I discovered Paulette’s Perhach’s work at AWP 2020 and felt compelled to purchase her book when I returned home. For the first time ever, I’ve read a writing manual where it doesn’t feel as if someone is talking down to me. Instead, Perhach is leveling with you (the reader, the writer), your guide through the perfect storm of being an artist. She’s also sat in the trenches of struggle, and to me, this makes it so much easier to sink into what she’s got to say. There are countless tips in this book for navigating the world of writing, publication, the decision of whether or not to conquer an MFA, why meditation is good for your writing career, and SO much more! Instead of feeling like a fraud (which I so often do), I felt... inspired and ready to conquer! Frankly, I was annoyed when I couldn’t find time to pick this book back up and read more of it. I was inspired to get my writerly life organized and in order. I can’t suggest this book enough, whether you’re a newbie writer or in the advanced stages! Every page taught me something new or reassured me to keep going no matter what — that the important thing is to keep practicing and approaching the page. So thankful I stumbled upon this book and I’ll be returning to its wisdom repeatedly as I keep honing my skills!
