This book absolutely floored me. I’d read the Reformatory first, which I also loved, and both books are based on the Dozier school in Florida. That being said, the books are very different. This one hurt. The writing was so beautiful, tight and with purpose, and the characters were so great and the story just carried through in a way that was so easy to read. I did not want to stop. I enjoyed the perspectives; the glimpses and insights into the characters that made me connect more and more with them. About the end:
the twist I didn’t see coming and it made the book hit that much harder!
I’m very excited to read more from Colson Whitehead.
