Did not finish book.
Lol. This was awful. DNF at 18%, and that's after continuing on for a few chapters after I wanted to put it down, hoping it would get better.
It didn't.
Trigger warning: DubCon. Probably. I noped out before we actually got there.
The story starts in the middle of the action. A guy is breaking into the house of our FMC, a single mother, and her 4-year-old daughter to save them from the bad guys who are coming to abduct them. So he's abducting them first. The daughter is cool with this because she's had dreams about this guy before. Apparently, she's psychic or something. The FMC has no idea what the fuck is going on so is understandably a little put out. She also has powers as an empath but I guess they don't really help her here. Too scared for herself and her daughter, I get that. Of course, the MMC doesn't really bother to explain what's going on. He's too busy telling her to get dressed or stopping to pick up a teddy bear to bother with any details.
We know absolutely nothing about the characters at this point so I'm not really caring too much about what's going on, but willing to go along with things for now. Until they get to the car, strap the daughter in, then stop for a make out session. She resists at first obviously, but as soon as their lips meet, she's all in. He apparently forgot that bad guys are supposed to be turning up any minute, and she's forgotten that he's actually in the process of kidnapping her and her daughter and she thinks he's a bad guy.
That's pretty much where you lost me.
But I continued on hoping that the book would get better.
It didn't.
Turns out our MMC is a vampire, has recognised the FMC as his fated mate (not why he took her, just a fun little coincidence), and marries her straight away. She goes along with it because I guess she has no choice. We're 10% in here. He expects her to "join" with him that night which will solidify the mating. Or something. She has no choice.
Oh yeah, after reaching the 'safe house' the MMC takes her to after the abduction, she's then abducted again from there by the bad guys and ends up separated from her daughter. This is at 11%. Story moves fast.
Not to worry though, the MMC rescues her pretty much straight away, whisks her away to a cabin and informs her they'll be having sex whether she likes it or not. She does not, but it doesn't matter. As soon as he touches her, she'll undoubtedly change her mind.
Hey remember the daughter? Don't worry. She doesn't really either.
At this point I was 'done' done.
