This is the story of half sisters in Ghana who never met. One is taken as a slave to America and we follow her descendants. The other stays in Ghana and we also follow her descendants.
There is a lot to think about in this beautifully told story. I don't want to give the story away, so I'll just say that I really liked this book. This is historical fiction at its best. The only thing that was frustrating was that there was a constant turn over of characters. Thankfully the family tree at the beginning helped keep them straight. I do wish she'd have given more indication of the date/time period, though through context you could figure it out.
