A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter
4.0

This is the third book in Karin Slaughter's Grant County series and every bit as good as the other two. Sara Linton is the town paediatrician who is also the coroner and she is written very well and is a likeable character. Sara is called to a crime scene on a day where she and her pregnant sister, Tessa, have just been out for ice cream together. Tessa is happy to come along to the crime scene, but knows better than to go anywhere near the body. A young man, Alex Rosen, a student at the university has apparently jumped from a bridge. The bridge is on the outskirts of campus, near a wooded area. Tessa, being pregnant, needs to 'use the facilities' so goes for a walk in the woods to find a suitable place. When Tessa doesn't return to the car, the police and Sara search for her. Sara finds her, stabbed and they rush her to hospital. Former police detective Lena Adams is now working on campus security so she is at the scene as well. She meets a controlling young man and seems darkly drawn to him. The next day, another body is found, another apparent suicide, and Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver and his team begin to suspect foul play. Again, this book is dark, but very well written.
