The Girl Who Survived
by Lisa Jackson
At seven years old, Kara McIntyre’s world will never be the same, when her parents and two of her siblings are butchered during the Christmas holidays. After her sister Marlie locked her in the attic for safety, she disappeared and to this day Marlie’s fate is unknown. Her other brother Jonas was injured in the attack, but survived. Circumstantial evidence and Kara’s testimony put him away as a convicted murderer. 20 years later, Jonas is unexpectedly released from prison and Kara’s life feels like it’s in a frenzy again. Receiving cryptic messages, the people around her begin to die of horrible deaths. Kara’s life was spared the first time, but will she survive a second attack?
•••••
The ending delivered on its promise. I love books that present stories where you know what happened isn’t true, so you inhale every page to get to that “ah ha” moment. I will warn you that this book switches between different characters POV. I didn’t mind it, but that tends to be a con for some readers.
