Did I love this book? Absolutely. Would I recommend it to everyone? Never. Going into this book, you must be sure the triggers will not bother you. I do not say this lightly. If you are uncomfortable with one or more of the triggers, this book is NOT good for you. The list of trigger warnings is written in the front of the book, by the author. She knows better than anyone what the book contains. Also, if you are uncomfortable with a cliffhanger, I suggest having the second book on hand before you begin this. The ending left me wanting more.
Now about the book. Holy **** (fill with what you will). I could not put this book down. I devoured it in a day. I fell in love with the banter between the two main characters. Adeline is sassy and has a mouth that would make a sailor roll over in their grave. Z is mysterious and dark. Even though he may do some bad things, the good he does outshines that and makes me love him even more. While the romance and smut too about 1/6 of the book (not that I'm complaining), the plot was used to enhance the story and kept me entranced.
I felt like a little kid again reading this book into the night when I should've been asleep. I already ordered the second book of the duet and will devour it just as fast as the first. H.D. Carlton, you have my heart, and I plan to read everything I can that you have written.
