Beach Read by Emily Henry

2.0

This was fun and light but sadly doesn't stand out, I've read other novels in this genre that I enjoyed a lot more. And contemporary romance isn't my thing anymore (I've read enough to last me a lifetime) but this wasn't thaaat romance-heavy. To be clear it is a romance book and in a way romance in the centre of the plot but it also focused on the process of writing and such which I found interesting.

The narrator is Julia Whelan so that alone made the book nicer. Her narration is enjoyable as always.

I'm not sure if I would've rated this book lower if I read it instead of listening to the audiobook. I'm no fan of contemporary romance anymore like I said (and read this book to check and yes still not a fan). However, in a way, the side story on writing wasn't bad so it certainly made the book better for me.

Yet, as a romance book, I didn't feel that omg hot chemistry between the main characters. I did not see the spark. It's obviously a subjective thing since many people did though...

I'm honestly thinking as I'm writing my thoughts on this book that why did I rate it 3 stars, I just finished writing a small review on another 3 stars read which I appreciated a lot more..
sure the writing part here was nice enough but
- I couldn't connect with the characters
- other than what I mentioned above, their personal stories did not hold my interest
- I wasn't swooning (this is very important to me while reading a romance, obviously)
- it didn't leave anything with me
- not memorable
- meh
- don't get the hype
- another story where he liked her and she thought he hated her

So I will probably lower my rating because the pros are a lot more than the cos and a single thing I liked can't save this book from 2 stars rating on its own

---> why writing reviews (even if a short mess like this one) help us better judge a book

So yeah the verdict:
I am lowering my rating to 2 stars. I didn't dislike anything in particular but as a romance book, it should've at least made me feel something and care about the romance between the characters. It didn't so can't keep the 3 stars rating.
