Reading Around The World (9/199): Argentina

Feel a little bit betrayed by this reading experience; I was enjoying Part One so much as we follow our nameless vampire from old Europe to 1800s Argentina. The vibes were: Gothic, Lady Dimitrescu, BG3 Ascended Astarion, Phantom of the Opera, Noseferatu (2024). Everything felt dark, sensual, and desirous - one of the few vampire works where I fully believed the urgent craving for blood.

However, Part Two changes both POV and formatting (from chapters to dated entries) and I felt like it disrupted the flow from the first half of the book. Alma as a character also didn’t really work for me - despite all her struggles she is simply not as interesting as the vampire. Even when Alma does some literary weird girl stuff it felt forced.

I also didn’t understand where the prologue was supposed to fit in the timeline of events. Confusing :/
