I have a strange relationship with JLA. I invariably spend the first several chapters of her books contemplating ditching them because the language irritates me (“crap on a cracker” and “sweet Mary mother of baby Jesus” come to mind - IDK why, but I find those lines so annoying!) But then because I hate not finishing a book, I keep reading and get sucked in and devour them in a couple of days. Same goes with this one.
I ended up mostly enjoying this for what it is - an easy read that doesn’t require a lot of thinking. I will say that having read a number of JLA’s series’s now, the formula seems to be pretty consistent each time. And I guess if it’s working for her, more power to her. But sometimes it feels like I could switch characters from one book to another and not notice the difference.
Anyway, not a bad read if you’re just after something easy.
