I was surprised by how much of the book contained religious references, due to the fact Ben never makes these sorts of arguments when he's debating on tv or speaking on college campuses. Nevertheless, the comparisons between western philosophies based on Judeo-Christian and Greek Telos vs the Neo-Paganism and Marxism was interesting. I hadn't considered the differences in the roots of these perspectives.
It makes sense that without the moral compass that the Old Testament provided to people, they would be left without an aim for purpose. I agree with an earlier point made that if God does not exist, it would be necessary to invent one so we as a society can work towards a common good without resorting to a loss of the individual to the benefit of the group.
This book left me asking more questions about my beliefs in these and other philosophies. It struck the root of the divisiveness we have in the US and explained in clear terms why each side so vehemently detests the other.
