The Odd Woman and the City
by Vivian Gornick
I seem to have found my literary soulmate in a punchy, eloquent, depression-plagued sixtysomething lady. This isn't so much a love letter to New York as it is a fond but aggressive noogie to New York. Also, deep stuff about isolation, friendship, the possibility of connection, and learning not to loathe the company of your own mind. I dog-eared pretty much every page.
