Maria Tumarkin's Axiomatic is comprised of reflections on trauma- both primary and secondary. The different sections focus on different experiences. The only reason I didn't rate this higher, is I found it a bit uneven and was more invested in the earlier sections than the latter ones. The first section which discusses the aftermath of a a suicide in the community is powerful and thought provoking. The secondary trauma that family members and the community feels is palpable. She also highlights a couple of examples of how living through the Holocaust affects people in different ways. Finally another powerful reflection surrounds people who work in the criminal justice area and both the results of trauma that have been inflicted on their clients as well as the secondary trauma they experience seeing/hearing these histories of trauma day in and day out.
