Seaside Stranger Vol. 1: Umibe No Étranger by Kanna Kii
2.0
Cute art, a cute premise and some cute romantic potential were ultimately squandered by bizarre writing choices. The growth of friendship and eventual romance between the young protagonists was the strongest section of the book; unfortunately it only lasts about a chapter before being abruptly cut off. Mio returns from a multi-year timeskip as a completely different person, at which point the story goes off the rails and never recovers. There are a whole series' worth of plotlines crammed into one little volume and none of them pan out. Given that Seaside Stranger was apparently extended into multiple volumes anyway, I'm at a loss as to why the mangaka didn't just develop things more slowly.
