Realm of Thieves by Karina Halle
3.25

The start of a new romantasy series, The Thieves of Dragemor, from Karina Halle and if I’m being completely honest, I didn’t love Realm of Thieves as much as I thought I would. Normally her books grab me from the opening pages and pull me in, I mean we’re talking dragon worshipping cults, a rivalry between thieves and black-market shenanigans, all the elements were there but I just don’t feel I got lost in this story like I usually do. The world building as always was great, there is no doubting she creates magical worlds and the way she can paint vivid scenes with her words, it makes it easy to visualise scenes in my mind as they play out on the page. Where this book fell a little flat for me was with the characters of Brynia and Andor, she didn’t make me care what happened to them and I didn’t really get any real sense of a connection or chemistry between them. Also, while the overall story started strongly it then seemed to slow down and lose momentum. Perhaps I’ll give this one a re-read in a couple of months and see if I feel any different
