The Women by Kristin Hannah
5.0
This was the first true audiobook I listened to all on my own and I am so glad I started my journey with The Women. Any story where women are getting stifled will always frustrate me but I think I really enjoyed this book because despite all the times the women characters were told to turn around and go home, they just kept fighting back!!! Loved the sisterhood of the women who worked together in Vietnam because of course that's such a strong trauma bond!
Very interesting to read so into depth about life working as a combat nurse in Vietnam, and what it took to get there too. Plus, everything that came after all the hardships at war??? Are you kidding?? And the vets who are men that didn't stand up for the women made me sad but I get it... different time...
Even though a lot of the book felt very dated in terms of expectations and limits for women, lack of research into PTSD, etc., unfortunately a lot of the themes still hold true today and I think that's what pissed me off the most. But a story that evokes emotion is a good one in my book (pun intended)!
