Another book where I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it and therefore how to rate it. #2 is on hold from the library but will take a few months until it's my turn. Guess I'll take that time to decide if I'm interested in continuing or not.
There is quite a bit of violence and some death, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's grimdark.
The odd thing I'm taking away from this one is that the protagonist was the only flushed out, fully 3D character. Everyone else felt like an NPC or a plot device. Similarly, it feels like there is a larger world sketched out in the background, but 60-75% of this story was a game of capture the flag.
