Montana Sky by Nora Roberts

3.0

This was my first stand-alone Nora Roberts book. I've read some of her trilogies (the Key trilogy, Morgana's Cross trilogy) and was not impressed in the least. She seems to be prolific to the point of being ridiculous, and I've heard from others that she recycles some of the same storylines over and over again. I typically enjoy setting romances such as this one, so I thought I'd give Roberts another go. It was an easy read, with agreeable and stereotypical characters. The setting was described enough to give us a taste of Montana, but not too much as to take away from the story.
I was not impressed with the murder mystery aspect that was thrown in. There was no warning on the cover to expect it, so it threw me for a loop when the first cattle was found slaughtered. It was not advertised as such, and I'm not sure what Roberts was attempting to accomplish by adding it in. This novel would have been fine as a simple three couple romance story, without the violence thrown in. Maybe I'll go back to Macomber and Robyn Carr.
