Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin
5.0
dark emotional funny mysterious sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes

Lot's of triggering content but worth it. The gaslighting and religious content is the most triggering for me. I tried to tag every potential trigger that I noticed in my review below.
However! The pacing, the intrigue, the mystery, the suspense, and the characterization were all so well done. It's way better than the movie. 100% recommend this book.
I can't be the only one who picked up on the anti-Catholic overtones, as an angry ex-Catholic who thinks it's a cult. I'm not mad at it. I'm also not a believer in any religion/gods, so it's not like I'm trying to say "Hail Satan" right now.
I might be saying "Hail Rosemary" though. She went through hell in this book. She just wanted to protect her baby from those monsters. Her husband, Guy, is about as useful as a dirty tissue. I was elated when Rosemary finally realized this. Also, please don't miss the moments of dark comedy in this book, there's a dry wit to this book that is so charming.
