An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur
4.0
I was really excited to have been provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It came highly recommended by a friend.
With that being said, while I didn't LOVE the story, I did fall in love with the writing. This book is long. It was a slow read for me, but I was determined to follow through. I had to give the story a chance because Ms. Laqueur mixed fiction with nonfiction perfectly. I loved the symbolism and foreshadowing used throughout this story. It was truly beautiful and probably one of best I've read in a long time.
This book definitely weaves a story across 2 decades, 2 major historic tragedies, 2 families, and taught these characters about love, and forgiveness and worthiness. The characters are fantastic. I will most definitely be picking up another book by Laqueur. She reminded me just how much the written word truly is art.
