Another in the Discworld reread! Thud has always been one of my favourite Discworld books - the combination of the detective style themes with a supernatural element in the Summoning Dark creates an intensely interesting and mysterious read in which darkness seems to wait around every corner.
The novel also deals directly with discussions around race, racism, and the issues faced by immigrant communities. As our protagonist Vimes doesn’t have perfect views when it comes to such matters - in fact he says and thinks problematic things on several occasions - yet it is this that allows for Pratchett to explore such delicate issues thoroughly and with the satirical humour he is so well known for.
