The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
by Ian McMahan, Joseph Murphy
The books start with an introduction of the basic anatomy of the human brain. Then the author starts to explain the psychology of the human brain. The books present various examples of people from different walks of life, who have tapped into the power of the subconscious and found themselves a better life, some who have even cured themselves of diseases.
What I liked
• The references were made based on some knowledge of neuroscience
• Language is easy to read
• Chapters like Happiness, Confidence etc are good.
What I didn’t like
• There are references in the chapter from the bible, which made me thought, is there any religious agenda of the author behind it
• Propagating an idea that a disease can be cured just by constantly thinking about a healthy life over and over again, seems a bit outlandish. Ignoring the other factors like diet, environment, proper medication & sleep etc.
• In the case studies mentioned, certain prayers before & after bed were recommended to some people & when they started doing those prayers, they healed… Like really?
That being said, the overall delivery of the book was a bit off. It's heavily religious, with plenty of references to God and bible verses. Must read for people, who are new to the basics of psychology & neuroscience. I already knew about these topics, so the book didn’t live up to my expectation.
