A Ribbon of Shining Steel: The Railway Diary of Kate Cameron by Julie Lawson

3.0

3.5*

Kate was a rather relatable character, personally speaking. I’ve kept diaries since I was 11 and still do to this day. Her way of writing and the drama that unfolded throughout her relationships and in her own mind brought me back to my own memories! Even though the story takes place in the 19th century, it’s a classic tale of girlhood. I didn’t expect such a realistic portrayal of young adolescence but I was pleasantly surprised. However, I do wish the plot was fleshed out more, especially towards the end. If you plan on reading this, don’t expect much about the historical aspects as it’s more of a slice of life with a few historical themes.
