This is my 4th read by this author and I just have to say, I am obsessed. This is the Detective DD series, and she is such a DREAM lead. Her CI, Flora Dane, is such an amazing character I would follow her story anywhere.
I love following the story of a woman scorned and her family secrets. Evie is a great mix of being headstrong but also a dumb girl who clearly is going to make mistakes and chose the wrong thing. This story dives into marriage and how you can be inseparable & still not truly know someone. I audibly gasped several times at the plot twists along the way. My favorite part of this book is that the author can make a plot so layered. I never felt like I was reading just to find one answer. It’s to find a million answers and new storylines pop up along the way. Whenever I look back at the book, it feels like a 3 part series. I finished this book on my work break and it embarrassingly enough brought me to tears. It was the perfect cherry on top of a very fucked up sundae. Flora always has a special place in my heart as one of my all time favorite characters. I am starting the next book in the series “when you see me” and I hope we get more Keith & Flora plot lines. Go read this book ASAP!
