This was my favorite Sally Rooney!! but not by a whole lot.

Her writing style has improved quite a bit and like always her dialogue is a huge standout, however like most of her books it tried to be a lot deeper than it was and could have been cut down by abt 70-100 pages. Her writing was still detached and I felt like the characters got a happier ending than they deserved compared to her other novels. This one also felt more disorganized and the pretentiousness of of the characters really bothered me more than usual in this one.

Still, I can’t deny her talent for writing abt self hatred and longing and self destruction and confrontation all being huge standouts that hit just right emotionally, however the moments still felt unearned to a certain extent bc while I like her premises I feel like she doesn’t always hit the mark for me with the execution. I know I’ll think abt the themes she brought up for days after this though and I can appreciate that.

Also ?? So many sex scenes in this one ??? Helped me get through the boring parts tho
