The Scattering by Kimberly McCreight

2.0

There is nothing wrong with this book, and if you loved the first, you will absolutely love this. For me though, it just continues to deviate from what I expected, and goes further into the "conspiracy driven, over-the-top, chosen-one" narrative that made me dislike the first. Everything feels outlandish about the danger, I just can't believe that the Outliers are THAT coveted, that this top-secret info is so known. Most of the "twists" like the first one were either predictable or unsurprising. And, those that were a surprise, was only because they just come out of nowhere. There is no hint or build-up, and they feel like they happen JUST to make problems for problems sake. The big reveal at the end was 1) not surprising and 2) disappointing because it is my least favourite trope.

I'm going to finish the series because I bought all three and I hate DNFing books when I own them. I also just want to see how much I am going to get right about predicting this book, because so far I'm at like 90%.
