The Maleficent Faerie by Rebecca F Kenney is part of the For the Love of the Villain Series. This is a Sleeping Beauty Retelling, it’s described as; “with a male version of Maleficent, a dying realm, and intriguing twists on the old tale.” When I found out what this book was about I never jumped to my kindle as fast as I did, my favorite fairytale is Sleeping Beauty. I also knew from reading Rebecca’s other books I was going to LOVE this one. Which I absolutely did and it’s definitely in my top ten of favorite reads.
This author has a gift to transport you into the world that was created, to make you fall in love with the characters on the page. I also really enjoyed the mental health representation that was expressed, dealing with self esteem and self worth issues. It makes me feel not so alone when I read characters facing and learning to live with it. I absolutely LOVED Malec, the Void King. I loved watching him and Aura come together and the growth both of their characters go through. I was invested from the very first chapter all the way to the final one; I was sad when it ended. ( Not because it was a sad ending but because I finished the book!) I do recommend just to be on the safe side to check your trigger warnings. Rebecca is an amazing writer and I will always jump to read her books; I highly recommend you read this book and maybe all the others. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!!
