Dragon Falls by Davis Lavender

This was an okay read, but with a blurb of "an ordinary guy crashes into a cozy fantasy" it wasn't really what I expected. The book was lighthearted and humorous, but the world itself was not a particularly cozy one, with an abusive marriage, cheating, harrassment and bullying, people plotting to kill each other, stabbing each other, having to do life-risking stunts (not always succesfully) to prove their worth... it wasn't that dark in tone and none of this is stuff that I mind reading about, it's just not a setting that comes to mind for me when I see the words "cozy fantasy".

There were a lot of sweet moments in the book, and while I found Feliks a bit grating at times I appreciated how honest (well, to some extent) he was, particularly in how he wanted to do right by Marek. I enjoyed a lot of the world building, like the lore behind Tamers and Riders, and would love to see that explored more. I liked Marek and Kasia a lot too, but a lot of the other characters were a bit too unserious for me and I'm just not into that type of humour. I think that was the biggest reason why I didn't enjoy the book more, I much prefer grounded books to wacky books and this one leaned just a bit too much into the latter category for me to like it more than I did.
