The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

One of the best books I've read! Such a genuinely well-crafted one-of-a-kind story. It felt invigorating and profound. Like one of those books that changes the way you see the world.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up at the end of the novel or rush to the library 5 minutes before they closed so I could check out the paperback copy of the book. I listened to most of this book on audio CDs with my husband but I was too eager to finish reading tonight. We made it to Disc 8 of 10, which ended on a cliffhanger. I wanted to finish the book faster than the audiobook. The audio narration is fantastic but it was nice to see the magazine/tabloid articles and see the sections of the book, divided by each husband.
Like always, Nate saw some of the twists and turns before I did. I suspected a few things but was always surprised when they happened. I thought this would be too feminine of a book or not Nate's style but I think he enjoyed it too. We enjoyed discussing the plot in the car.

I thought the book would remind me of "Daisy Jones and the Six" (which I only listened to on CD) but it's a whole different book. I wouldn't believe it was written by the same author. It did remind me a little of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" because both books focus on a journalist trying to tell a story about a woman.

My friend Natalie suggested I read this book because she enjoyed it, so I pitched it to read this month for our book club and I'm so glad I read it. I want to read more books by this author now.
