I love the storyline of the series. It is very well written, but certain aspects of the book keep repeating themselves. Example: Drake and Caine... Those characters and their actions keep repeating repeatedly, like they don't learn from their mistakes.
I know they are young children, but it's a year later; you would expect at least some development of some sort of maturity over time. They keep repeating the same actions with different words, such as Caine wanting to be the leader and now he wants to be king? Like, it's getting really irritating.
I understand the timeline of the books and each situation they were in, such as book one, adults disappearing and trying to understand their situation, then adapting to it. Book two: hunger and figuring out how to solve the problem. Third book: lies, in which certain characters try to lie about a situation and about another character in the book so that children wouldn't freak out and start chaos. The fourth book, called Plague, is about a plague running around the town, but the book wasn't really focusing on the plague situation; there were more focused on other problems in the book.
And now the fifth book, the second last of the Gone series. This book wouldn't end with specific situations; as I said before, it is very well written, and I understand the storyline. I know that you can't write a book about adults disappearing and then the next book has a happy ending. If a situation like this ever happens, it will never get solved, or it will be solved on its own years later, but with no explanation or reason behind it happening in the first place and how it got solved at last.
But the author didn't put much effort into changing certain things or thinking something new. I still enjoyed the well-written book and the storyline, but I will not recommend this series to anyone or re-read this series ever again.
