Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

4.0

I know that it's probably unwise to write a review 15 minutes after finishing said book but I literally cannot keep it together. I finished this book and immediately covered my face with a pillow and screamed. To be completely honest, I went into this book knowing only that I really liked the cover and it had dragons. That's it. My initial pass was that this was another YA high fantasy. How incredibly wrong I was.

I am usually not one to fall immediately into a hefty Booktok recommendation, but if everyone is talking about it, it must be good, right? I can firmly say that this is the one of the times I'm glad I fell for the hype. Fourth Wing was imaginative, heartbreakingly amazing high fantasy that had the right amount of spice. "Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die." A truer tagline for a book has never been written.

SpoilerViolet is an interesting protagonist who struggles to initially believe in herself and a seemingly healthy distrust of those around her. Often coddled by her childhood friend, Dain, while trying to untangle her growing attraction for Xaden. The feeling of utter betrayal she will inevitably feel from Dain who spends his time trying to protect her.

I need the sequel to this book YESTERDAY. November cannot come soon enough.
