Game of Hate & Lies is the fifth book of the Broken Kingdoms series and marks the second book of the second trilogy within the series. This book focuses on themes of love, redemption and how villains are made. Tropes include hidden identities, a shadow daddy, found family and political intrigue. This is a semi-dark fantasy so please check the content warnings.
The Lovely: Still loved the plots and the twists. That said, the wait for the main characters to no longer be separated was a long torture. But, the reunion made it worth it. I loved loved the twist at the ending - I’m absolutely squealing in delight for the next book. Also, I devoured this book in one evening.
The Nice: I grew to love Malin even more, as well as some of the other guild members. You can tell Malin is coming into her own and starting to embrace the darkness. Kase is still not high on my list of favorite characters in this trilogy and I’m left wondering what else he hasn’t told Malin at this point.
Rating: 4/5 Stars 1/5 spicy flames
Recommendation: As of the end of this book, I’m liking this trilogy more than I did at the end of the last book but less than first trilogy. I think I’m going to finish this trilogy, take a break to read an ARC, read the next duology in this series, read an ARC and then read the last book, just for a bit of a break. If you like an interesting story that combines a strong plot with adventure and relatable characters in a fantasy world, I think you would like this book.
