She Is a Haunting by Trang Thanh Tran

5.0

I'm not the best at writing reviews or deeply analyzing text; so this review is based primarily on emotions. I picked this book up on a whim. The very first line drew me in so I bought it. It's been years since I've read anything labeled YA and I'm so happy I got this book. It's really what I needed to get back into the genre, but even outside that, it's just really, plainly /good/. I love how it was both a horror story and also one about family, coping with the past when it can still affect the present and future. Jade's voice felt like a friend--like she was telling me everything personally. As I got closer to the end, I wondered just how it would go--neatly? Messily? It was kind of a rollercoaster of emotions up to the last word and even the bonus chapter, but I don't think it could have ended any other way. To me it's the kind of ending that certifies you'll keep thinking about the book long after you've finished it. I can't wait to see what new tales the author creates in the future.
