A Man Without a Country by Kurt Vonnegut

3.0

2.75/5 stars or 5.5/10

This was my first of Vonnegut’s and I recognize that might not be the smartest choice considering this one was somewhat a memoir written near the end of his life.

Vonnegut is very much the avuncular dude that everyone describes him to be. And I don’t think I quite prepared for his dark humor his rants his sarcasm and his wise fury… so … what I’m trying to say is though my rating may be considered low, it’s really just a reflection of my confusion or smooth-brainness in trying to understand all his references, and then again I’m also internet-age born gen Z… so I readily admit it’s a me-problem.

And I’m not leaving it at that! It’s a WIP. I’m trying!

Will definitely return to this one after I read a few of his earlier works. Glad to say, I did enjoy this first read. I felt the anger and the despair and the optimism and the call for kindness.

But I’m sure it’ll be even more fun in a second read.
