i was actually pretty impressed by this book. very mystical and good at explaining the fantasy lore. i liked the characters, most of them were very loveable. the villains were also very good and fleshed out. the plot twist within the last 50 or so pages caught me off guard a little bit and personally i feel that it should have been introduced sooner but it wasnt unfortunately. i also liked how there was no romance in this book. i know that might sound stupid but i genuinely feel that if this book had some sort of romance plot it would take it away from all the adventure and the main premise of the arabian nights elements. on a side note, there was cliche phrases like letting out breaths she didnt realise she was holding, but ive come to realise that this is extremely common in most fantasy books and you cant really get away from it. other than that, it was fun to read and quite gripping. im always a fan of short chapters so this book was great for that. i think i will read the rest in the trilogy when they come out.
a happy 4/5 stars
