This was a gripping read that I hated as much as I enjoyed. Some of what is supposed to pass for romance felt insulting, and there’s plenty of torture and violence that was not necessary to advance the plot. The book is overlong and could have benefited from an editor.
I left book one itching to read the second, but I held off a little while because I’d heard it wasn’t as good. I kinda wish I had just left it there. Then again, I may read the next one if I can’t find something else I want to read some day; I just have to be prepared to hate read it.
