Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrews

2.0

The really frustrating thing about this book is that it has a lot of genuinely good ideas, and the intense research that went into creating this world really shows, but the good qualities are marred by the novel's poor execution. Having a competent editor strengthen the sentences and paragraphs would have helped. Letting the
Spoiler Muses have personalities instead of treating them as voiceless McGuffins would have also helped. And, outright eliminating the romantic interest between Daphne and Apollo would have made this a much stronger book. Their romance didn't make sense and I can't count how many times I rolled my eyes over their interactions. Overall I think this book should have gone through another draft or two before its publication.
