The Virgin Suicides

can’t stress enough how interesting this was… what cool framing… we see the sisters basically as one entity, morphed into one through the fascination of the boys. the girls are flattened through the boys’ investigations, fetishized not only through their bodies but also their suffering. years into adulthood the now men are still obsessed with the story, not seeming to realize what it means for them to hang on so tightly to this, to fraying objects owned by girls who have left them behind in death, yet they stay locked in place. the boys/men seem to have this idea that they can somehow resurrect the girls through their attention, stuck in a loop of the story really being about them over and over at the end of the day. loved this.
