Piglettes by Clémentine Beauvais

I loved this! This brilliant book had me smiling, crying and actually laughing out loud in places. This is the story of Mireille, Astrid and Hakima. They've just been voted the ugliest girls in school, in a Facebook competition named the Pig Pageant. Mireille is just such a fantastic character. I loved her from the first page and by the end of the book I wanted to be her friend! Oh what an amazing friend she is! She swiftly takes Astrid and Hakima under her wing, laughs it all off and then plans a road trip that will silence their bullies once and for all. They each have personal reasons for wanting to cycle to Paris, and the trek soon invites interest from the local press, and the internet. In due course, the three girls become heroes, and quite rightly so. A wonderfully warm, funny and intelligent young adult book which I would implore young girls to read and enjoy. It has many messages, none of which are shoved down your throat, and you won't find another character as lovable and brilliant as Mireille in a long, long time.
