The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family by Dave Pelzer
4.0
This is Dave's sequel to "A child called IT"". It's his true life story. A very sad tale of abuse, neglect and self-destruction. But there's also a glimpse of hope for "the System", as some calls it: the foster care system, social services and child protection agencies.
This is not a new book, but it was a new read for me. As painful as it is, it was also fascinating to realize the strength of the human spirit. I couldn't put the book down. I still think that the first book of this trilogy was the most shocking one, because it introduced us to Dave as a very young boy and the abuse that he suffered at home with a drunk mother and a father who wouldn't stand up to his emotionally unstable wife and protect his kids.
This second installment follows Dave throughout his teenage years until he graduates from "the System" at 18 years old.
I'm looking forward to reading the last one.
